The Lamorna Arts Festival 2010
The 2010 Lamorna Arts Festival took place from 16th to 20th September, to coincide with the St Ives September Festival.
In the Festival Art Exhibition ‘Working the Line’ the Lamorna Valley Group celebrated the working life of the area and created work specially for the exhibition, inspired by this theme. Fishing, quarrying, tin streaming, writing, painting, poetry, flower farming, agricultural farming, smuggling and wrecking, and now.... tourism, all these are part of the working history of Lamorna.
As in the previous year, there were greatly differing interpretations both in approach and the materials used, reflecting the variety of work amongst artists here.
Margaret Powell gave us an introductory talk at the private view, about life in Lamorna when the quarry was being worked. Her family has had a long involvement with the Lamorna valley and you can see her notes for the talk here.
The 2010 festival supported Breadline in Penzance, run by St Petroc's Society.
